This is a polished section of a molar from the Columbian mammoth (Mammuthus columbi), one of the largest mammoths that ever lived. Polishing reveals the tooth’s grinding plates as dark, folded enamel ridges set against warm cream, tan and amber tones. Thousands of years of mineralization created the coloring, so no two pieces are alike.
It was recovered from Pleistocene deposits in the Gulf of Mexico, just offshore of Venice, Florida, and is roughly 11,000 to 1 million years old.
You will receive the exact piece shown in the photos. Natural features such as small cracks or areas of original surface are part of its history and make it one of a kind.
