This is a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) molar, the grinding tooth of the Ice Age giant that once roamed the frozen steppes of the Northern Hemisphere. Rows of tightly packed enamel plates run across the chewing surface. Over a lifetime, those plates wore down against tough grasses and sedges. Thousands of years in the Siberian permafrost gave this tooth its rich, earthy brown coloring.
It was recovered in Siberia, Russia, and dates to the Pleistocene epoch, roughly 10,000 to 400,000 years ago.
You will receive the exact piece shown in the photos. Natural features such as cracks, worn plates and areas of exposed root are part of its history and make it one of a kind.
