Ammonites were spiral-shelled sea creatures, related to today's octopus, squid, and nautilus, that thrived in the world's oceans for more than 300 million years before going extinct alongside the dinosaurs. This fossil comes from Madagascar and dates to the Cretaceous Period, roughly 110 million years ago. After the animal died, its shell settled into seafloor sediment, where minerals filled and protected it, preserving the original nacre: the same luminous material as mother-of-pearl. Today these fossils are carefully unearthed by hand and polished by skilled artisans to bring out that natural glow. Graceful ribs sweep outward from a shimmering center spiral, while flashes of pink, green, and gold dance across the pearlescent surface as it catches the light.
Because every fossil is a natural creation, each one is truly one of a kind. You will receive the exact piece pictured. Every order is backed by our 30-day money-back guarantee.Dimensions
