Lapis Lazuli is a semi-precious stone characterized by its vibrant, deep-blue color. Structurally, Lapis Lazuli is composed of the minerals Lazurite, Sodalite, Calcite and Pyrite. It has been appreciated since ancient times, with some Lapis Lazuli mines in Afghanistan dating back to the 7th millennium (7000) B.C. While the majority of the world’s Lapis Lazuli traces its origins to Afghanistan, Lapis Lazuli beads and other Lapis Lazuli Neolithic remnants have been found as far away from Afghanistan as Mauritania. Even the Ceremonial funeral mask of world-renowned ancient Egyptian pharaoh, King Tutankhamun (otherwise known as “King Tut”), was adorned with Lapis Lazuli. Metaphysically, Lapis Lazuli is said to stimulate wisdom and good judgement. In terms of its healing properties, Lapis Lazuli has been used to treat conditions of the throat and endocrine system. Our Lapis Lazuli is native to Afghanistan.
